“A North East company selling waterless urinals has ambitions to float on the stock market in the next five years.
Eco Ad, based in Stockton, is the only company in the UK with the rights to supply pubs, universities, businesses and sports centres with Falcon porcelain urinals.
Because they never need flushing, the urinals can save up to 150,000 litres of water a year and include removable, recyclable cartridges that prevent the uric acid build-up, which can lead to blocked pipes.
The design also includes a panel that can be used to advertise products or services, and acts as a potential money spinner.”
Stockton entrepreneurs are the best networkers in the UK
A group of entrepreneurs in Stockton-on-Tees, who hold weekly breakfast meetings have been rated the best business networkers in the UK. BNI runs the group, which generated £6 million in deals for each other.

KATHRYN Hardy from Stockton has turned her hobby into a career after launching her new bakery business in the town.
In October of last year, Kathryn started to rent a unit at Stockton Business Centre.
After finishing her day job she would work at night making wedding and celebration cakes and breads and pastries for a range of local events and businesses.
She also found time to gain a 5 star Food Hygiene Award and sold her products at local markets after work and at the weekends.
Kathryn recently expanded her business into the café at Stockton Business Centre. Café Hardys was launched on 1 November.
Kathryn said: “This opportunity has opened new doors for me.
“I now have two businesses, Much Ado About Muffins which was launched in October 2009 and Café Hardys.
“Already Café Hardys is going from strength to strength. I have just taken on my first members of staff and hope to employ an apprentice in the near future.
“We are gaining trade from local businesses and I have secured contracts to supply events catering for some of the region’s big organisations.”
Kathryn is just one of many people living and working across Stockton Borough who are taking the opportunity to follow their personal ambitions.
STOCKTON is one of the fastest-growing places in the country for new businesses.
A new study by the Royal Mail today shows the number of new businesses in the UK has increased for the first time in 18 months, with more than 39,000 launched in the last six months.
Sunderland was the fastest growing city in terms of businesses established in the last six months with 1.89% of businesses being new start-ups, followed by Rotherham in South Yorkshire (1.86%) and Stockton with 1.76%.

TWO Masters students from Teesside University, who faced a difficult job market when they graduated last year, have secured their ideal jobs through the Graduate Internship Scheme. When Hans Luchoo and Stephen Brown graduated in 2009, Britain was in deep recession. Both wanted to stay in the region, but knowing it would be tough to get their foot on the career-ladder they turned to the university’s careers service for help. Also contacting the careers service was Maurice Olum, an entrepreneur and owner of Solumac, a Stockton-based company specialising in software development and web-based applications. He was looking for a couple of graduates to help build up his business. They were put in contact with each other by Jan Harris, business adviser in the university’s careers department, who recommended the Government-backed graduate internships. The Government internship scheme was launched earlier this year and is supported nationally by the Federation of Small Businesses and by a number of universities, including Teesside. Hans came to Teesside from Mauritius to initially study for a BSc (Hons) Computer Studies followed by the MSc Web Enterprise, while Stephen, from Hartlepool, completed the MSc Visual and Web Applications. An online bookstore operating from Stockton Business Centre is Beck Valley Books. They offer around 5,000 second-hand, rare and out-of-print books covering many subjects including children’s books at fantastic prices. The company offers a free book-search service to try and locate that hard-to-find book you really want and free delivery to local residents.
Dancers from Dancefuzion group, based in Stockton Business Centre in Brunswick Street, were invited to perform on the main stage at the Children in Need event at Hartlepool Marina
Seen by millions on live TV and a live audience of more than 2,000, this was a fantastic opportunity.
They also performed at the Odin’s Glow arts festival. The company is providing new employment opportunities in the area and recently recruited dance teacher Natalie York to it’s staff.
